San Jose Unified is pleased to announce the arrival of the first allotment of H1N1 Vaccine for our students. The implementation of San Jose Unified School District’s H1N1 voluntary Vaccination Program will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 17, at Lowell Elementary School, 625 South 7th Street San José, CA 95112. Ms. Jodi Lax is the principal of Lowell Elementary School.
Lowell is the first school in the District to begin the Vaccination Program. As more vaccine becomes available, parents will be notified school by school through the District’s outcall system, ParentLink, and all information will continue to be posted on the District’s web site. http://www.sjusd.org Approximately 200 students of the 385 students attending Lowell Elementary returned their consent forms and will be the first in line to be vaccinated. In order to be eligible to receive the vaccine, all students’ consent forms had to be submitted by Friday, November 13. The forms are being checked by SJUSD’s Health Department and will undergo further checking on the day of the Vaccination Program to determine whether students qualify for either injectable or nasal mist vaccine.
Superintendent Don Iglesias was very pleased to learn the vaccine had arrived and commented, “San Jose Unified is able to offer this Vaccination Program to our students because of the vision of our Board of Education, our partnership with the Department of Public Health, the generosity of the Packard Foundation through a grant, which provides four registered nurses to support our students and the hard work and dedication of our SJUSD nurses and staff. Being able to provide the vaccine for our students will help keep them healthy, attending school and optimize their learning experience.”
