Newsweek ranks Leland among top high schools in the nation

Newsweek magazine has ranked Leland 54th in the nation in recognition of our high graduation rate, high level of college readiness and college attendance among our students. The ranking was calculated using various data points, including enrollment rate, graduation rate, state-level assessment scores, weighted AP/IB composite score, and weighted SAT/ACT composite score. National Merit Scholarships

The National Merit® Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. About 1.4 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. 300 Leland juniors took the PSAT last year. Of them, 26 qualified as National Merit SemiFinalists. These students will now apply for the Finalist round. Congratulations!

Measure H Community Meeting, Thu, Sept. 18th

Voters approved  Measure H general obligation bonds to improve our schools on November 6, 2012.  Over the past year we gathered community input regarding Measure H projects at Leland and submitted a list of proposed projects to SJUSD Board of Education. The board will review the project lists submitted by all schools within the district. Prior to the review process, we are holding another Measure H Community Meeting on Thursday, September 18th at 6:30 PM in the Leland Cafeteria. The purpose of this meeting is to provide additional opportunities for the whole community to engage in the process of identifying Measure H projects that will improve school safety and security, quality of instruction, facilities and resources available to Leland students. All Leland parents and community members are encouraged to attend.

WASC Accreditation

The Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) has granted accreditation to Leland High School through June 30, 2020. This was the best possible outcome of our self-study report and the WASC committee's visit in March 2014. All Leland stakeholders, including staff, students, parents, and the community, played a critical role in earning this accreditation status. Congratulations! We will focus on our WASC Action Plan for the next six years. A mid-year report is due to WASC in 2017.
